About ShankaraBorn in Kerala, in the culturally and spiritually rich Malabar region of South India, Shankara was raised amidst traditions rooted in ancient ways of living. His early years were deeply influenced by the subtle rhythms of temple culture, ritual, and a life aligned with nature.
At the age of eighteen, he traveled to the United States to pursue aviation. Yet even while training in the West, he returned to India each year, journeying across the country. These travels created a quiet inner churning — between the material dynamism of the West and the spiritual depth of Mother India — eventually leading him back to his homeland in search of its authentic spiritual roots. During this period, he met two transformative masters: Sri Tathata of Palakkad, who introduced him to the depth of Tantra, and Sri Balamurugan Swami of Chottanikkara, who opened the doorway to Vedanta. Their guidance planted the seeds of deep inquiry. He later spent nearly a year at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore under Sadhguru, where he received systematic training in asana, pranayama, and disciplined yogic living. This phase strengthened his foundation in sadhana and inner structure. His journey eventually brought him to the sacred land of Arunachala in Tamil Nadu, where he now lives and teaches. Immersed in the Siddha tradition — a path deeply rooted in nature and the elemental forces — his practice matured into a lived experience rather than a philosophy. Today, shaped by the grace of many masters and traditions, Shankara shares from a space of gratitude and humility — offering practices grounded in fire, breath, mantra, and direct experience. |
