about our circles

Circles have long held spiritual significance across cultures as a form which reflects wholeness, continuity, and shared humanity. To sit in a circle is to meet without hierarchy, without judgement, and without the need to perform or prove. Each person is equally visible, equally valued, equally held.

At Kookaburra Yoga Sanctuary, our circles offer a safe and welcoming space for connection, reflection and mutual support. They are spaces where listening carries as much meaning as speaking, where difference is respected, and where collective presence becomes a source of steadiness and strength.

The purpose of each circle is simple and essential: to cultivate safety, community and connection. Through shared practices, honest conversation and attentive presence, circles support inner clarity while strengthening our capacity to care for one another and for the wider world.

Circles run every Friday morning from 10am to 12pm. Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and stay afterwards to eat together in the sanctuary. Tea is provided.

temple circle

with Mandy Knox & Trish Zied

Picture
The Temple Circle is a devotional and initiatory space grounded in Shaktism and women’s spiritual lineages. It is for those drawn to depth of practice, refined spiritual inquiry and the cultivation of subtle awareness. This circle holds a reverent and contained atmosphere where participants may enter profound states of inner attunement and transformation.

Practices are drawn from Sri Vidya and related Shakta traditions, including Sri Yantra meditation, mantra, contemplative study of the Saundarya Lahari, chakra-based practices and ritual. These teachings support the refinement and protection of prana and shakti, strengthening intuitive clarity and inner sovereignty.

A central aspect of this circle is intentional healing work, held with care, skill and ethical clarity. At times, participants may bring themselves into the centre of the circle for healing. At other times, the collective may hold another person or being not present within the field of shared intention. This work draws upon focused awareness, mantra, ritual and subtle energetic presence, creating conditions which support deep healing and integration.

Within this circle, participants may experience:
• Sri Yantra and mantra-based meditation
• contemplative study and spiritual philosophy
• chakra and subtle energy practices
• fire ritual when conditions allow
• collective healing work for self or others through shared intention

This circle is suited to those seeking spiritual depth, energetic refinement and profound inner work within a safe and contained collective. While the emphasis is on women's spiritual lineages and practices, everyone is welcome.

shakti women's circle

The Shakti Women’s Circle is a space for women to gather in shared presence and mutual support, grounded in feminine-centred spiritual traditions. It offers a steady and compassionate container where women may explore inner life, relationships, creativity and personal healing without judgement or hierarchy.

This circle honours Shakti as the animating force of life itself, expressed through body, breath, emotion, intuition and voice. Practices support reconnection with inner strength and self-trust, particularly during times of transition, challenge or renewal. The emphasis is on authenticity, gentleness and respect for each woman’s lived experience.

Within this circle, participants may experience:
• embodied practices that support emotional regulation and inner steadiness
• mantra, meditation and breath practices aligned with feminine wisdom traditions
• ritual and symbolic practices which honour life cycles and transitions
• guided reflection and journalling to support clarity and self-understanding
• sharing within a confidential and non-judgemental group

This circle supports women to feel resourced, connected and accompanied, strengthening both personal resilience and collective care. It is open
to everyone who identifies as a woman in any stage of life.

healing earth circle

with Mandy Knox

Picture
The Healing Earth Circle is for anyone who cares about the natural world and feels a desire to deepen connection with the Earth, with the more-than-human world and with each other. This circle welcomes people from all walks of life who feel concern for the state of the planet and who seek community, meaning and constructive ways to respond.

Grounded in the principles of deep ecology, this circle offers a supportive space to explore our relationship with the Earth as something relational and alive rather than abstract or distant. It recognises that ecological concern often carries grief, sadness, anger or helplessness alongside love and devotion. These experiences are welcomed and held with care.

Inspired by the Work That Reconnects, developed by Joanna Macy and John Seed, the circle weaves eco-yoga, meditation, ecological philosophy and facilitated group processes. Practices support deep listening, shared reflection and a sense of belonging within the wider web of life.

The Healing Earth Circle supports people who want to do more than carry concern alone. It offers a place to process ecological grief, strengthen resilience and reconnect with purpose, agency and hope. Time is spent both receiving support and exploring ways of living and acting which are aligned with care for the Earth.

Within this circle, participants may experience:
• nature-based meditation and eco-yoga practices within the sanctuary
• facilitated deep listening and shared reflection
• space to acknowledge ecological grief and emotional response
• exploration of deep ecology philosophy in an accessible and grounded way
• support for clarifying how to live and act in service of the Earth

This circle supports connection, courage and collective care, reminding us that healing the Earth and healing ourselves are intertwined processes.

circle of elders

with Michelle Gordon & Trish Zied

Picture
The Circle of Elders honours elderhood as a state of being and an embodied way of living. Elderhood here refers to those who hold others through wisdom, steadiness and care. These are people who support family, community and wider society emotionally, spiritually and often materially, while remaining engaged, responsive and vital in the world.

Elders carry perspective and presence. They offer guidance through discernment, strength through steadiness and care through deep relational awareness. Many are matriarchs and patriarchs within families, mentors within communities and custodians of continuity. Their role is active and relational, sustaining others while holding integrity, clarity and compassion.

This circle recognises the depth and responsibility carried within elderhood. It offers a space where elders strengthen their own energy, refine boundaries and remain aligned with what matters most. Through shared reflection and contemplative practice, the circle supports inner resources which allow elders to continue offering care with sustainability and grace.

Within this circle, participants may experience:
• contemplative practices which cultivate steadiness, clarity and inner authority
• reflection on elderhood as responsibility, service and spiritual maturity
• peer connection among those who support and guide others
• inquiry into sustaining energy, integrity and purpose over time
• community connection grounded in mutual recognition and respect

The Circle of Elders affirms elderhood as a vital and empowered way of being. It supports those who hold others to also receive care, strengthening the capacity to continue offering guidance, presence and stability in a complex and changing world.

Anyone, at an stage of life, identifies with themselves as an elder within their community, family, the world is welcome to this circle.
