Our Wednesday morning class is level 3. In the Iyengar method of Hatha Yoga, emphasis is on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture and breath control to gain strength, mobility and stability.
Detail, precision, alignment
The Iyengar method of Hatha Yoga is grounded in the eight limbs of yoga as articulated in the aphorisms (Yoga Sutra) of Patanjali. In this context, yoga is built on a foundation of ethics (yama) and personal discipline (niyama), the postures (asanas) and breathing (pranayama) are practised for the body health and vital energy expansion. Control of the senses (pratyahara) or introspection is practiced so that non-identification with mind fluctuations be trained, which together with concentration (dharana) might lead to meditation (dhyana). Absorption of the Infinite (Samadhi) or illumination is the eighth limb.
Isabel's Iyengar class includes a sequence of Hatha Yoga postures and techniques, approached from the dense to the subtle senses, which include releasing and invigorating the body, calming the mind and observing the self.
The practice and values are gradually introduced in a way that leads the students to a broader self-awareness (body, mind, feelings) and self-enquiry. The major challenge in yoga, for Isabel, is to extend the good feelings reached within the practice room, outwards to the daily life.
The practices evolve gradually and allows any student to accomplish as instructions are provided steadily, as well as the use of props are suggested so that each person might find a balanced and stable posture.

There is an emphasis on where the student is – physical, mental, and emotionally – so from that point onwards, each one might build a solid and more conscious connection within and strive for a better condition, more healthy, focused, and peaceful.
Wednesdays 9.15am - 10.45am. Ongoing casual class. Level 3 (suitable for students with some experience of Hatha Yoga).

Isabel is a yoga practitioner and qualified teacher, who trained in Portugal initially with Carlos Rui (studied and practiced with B.K.S. Iyengar in Pune) and lately with Pedro Kupfer (studied and practiced with Swami Dayananda in Rishikesh). Isabel sees yoga as a way of life beyond the practice room.

- Bring a non-breakable drinking water-bottle.
- Yoga is practiced barefoot. Shoes are not to be worn inside.
