Honouring the Night

Somatic Yin Weekend Workshops for Sleep, Stress Reduction and Deep Restoration: 21 & 22 Mar, 11 & 12 Apr 2026

Teacher Training or General Participation options for practitioners looking for a nervous system reset, stress reduction, deep rest and sleep support, and teachers learning to offer it.

Registered with Yoga Australia.

Discover yoga that heals

Somatic Yin Yoga is a slow and attentive practice which supports the body’s innate capacity for regulation and repair. Developed by Mandy Knox, Somatic Yin works with stillness, sensation and internal awareness to support balance across the nervous system, emotional body and subtle layers of experience. The practice draws together Yin Yoga, somatic awareness and yogic subtle body understanding within a unified and responsive framework.

This specialised training module, taught over two weekends, focuses on sleep, stress reduction and trauma-aware practice, with particular emphasis on evening Somatic Yin, Yoga Nidra and practical techniques which support deep rest and nervous system settling. You'll learn about the nervous system, nervous system injury, and how yoga helps us to heal.

The practices offered respond to the lived experience of chronic stress, fatigue and emotional overload and to the challenges many people meet when rest feels unfamiliar and deep sleep elusive.

Somatic Yin is taught as an integrative process rather than a collection of techniques. Posture, breath, sound, mantra, marma awareness and Yoga Nidra are woven together within each practice, supporting regulation and integration at physical, emotional and subtle levels. Attention is given to how these elements interact and how they may be adapted to support different nervous system responses, particularly in the context of evening practice and sleep preparation.

The Honouring the Night module offers a grounded exploration of the yogic subtle body systems as they relate to rest and restoration. Students are introduced to the fourteen major nadis and to marma points which influence sleep quality, stress patterns and mental settling. These points are explored through self-practice within Somatic Yin postures and through clear guidance on offering awareness-based cues, self-touch and teacher-supported tactile guidance with sensitivity and consent.

Honouring the Night unfolds over two weekends and invites a return to the body as a place of safety, listening and trust. It offers teachers and practitioners a clear framework for learning these practices personally and for guiding others into states of settling, restoration and intuitive awareness, through gentleness, presence and respect for natural rhythms.

An Integrated Path of Practice and Teaching

Honouring the Night offers an immersion into Somatic Yin Yoga as a practice of rest, regulation and inner listening. This training is for practitioners wishing to experience these practices for themselves and for teachers seeking to understand how to guide others with care and clarity. Through supported Somatic Yin postures held for time, the body slows and attention turns inward. Breath softens, sensation becomes clearer and mental activity eases. Sound, mantra, breath and marma awareness are integrated within the practice, supporting nervous system steadiness and quiet presence. From this place, personal restoration and teaching insight develop side by side.

Somatic Yin Yoga

A Nervous System–Led Integrative Practice
Somatic Yin Yoga is an integrative practice which brings together Yin Yoga, somatic awareness and subtle body understanding within a coherent and responsive framework. It blends the depth and stillness of Yin Yoga with inwardly oriented attention, where sensation becomes the primary guide and the nervous system shapes the pace of practice.

Postures are held for time, supported with props and entered with care, allowing the connective tissues, breath patterns and neural responses to settle gradually. Sensation, breath quality and emotional tone inform how a posture is entered and how long it is sustained, creating the conditions for regulation, integration and restoration.

Within Somatic Yin, posture, breath, sound, mantra, marma awareness and Yoga Nidra are woven into a single embodied process rather than taught as separate techniques. Each element supports the others. Stillness prepares the ground for breath. Breath supports sensory awareness. Sound and mantra regulate attention and tone. Marma awareness refines perception and directs healing intent. Yoga Nidra completes the arc by offering deep integration and rest.

This training includes an applied understanding of the yogic subtle body systems, with specific attention given to the fourteen major nadis (energy pathways) and key marma points which influence sleep quality, stress response and emotional regulation. These points are explored both as self-practice within Yin postures and as teaching tools, guiding students toward gentle self-touch or awareness-based contact within the practice.

Teachers learn how to work skilfully with marma points during Somatic Yin, how to offer tactile cues or touch with clarity and consent and how to support students in using their own bodies as instruments of regulation and care. Practices for settling the mind, balancing mental reactivity and restoring intuitive clarity are integrated throughout, always in relationship with the body and breath.

Within this training, Somatic Yin Yoga is explored as a practice which supports nervous system recovery, softens habitual muscular and fascial holding, unwinds stress patterns held in the tissues and provides a stable and responsive container for emotional processing and inner regulation.

Teachers are guided in how to sequence Somatic Yin specifically for evening practice, sleep support and stress recovery, with careful attention to transitions, language, pacing and the integration of subtle body techniques within the flow of the practice.

Our Somatic Yin Yoga Teacher Training is both in-person and online. All sessions are live-streamed allowing you to join live from your own home.

Core Components of the Honouring the Night Workshops

The Honouring the Night module teaches Somatic Yin Yoga through a set of clearly defined practices which work together to support sleep, stress reduction, and nervous system regulation. At the centre of this work is Yin Yoga itself, taught as a slow, still, and deeply embodied practice where time, support, and simplicity create the conditions for settling and repair.

Each component of the module has a specific role within evening practice and is taught through direct experience rather than abstract explanation. Attention is given to pacing, sensitivity, and the realities of living with stress, trauma, grief, and nervous system fatigue. The practices are sequenced to guide the body and mind gradually from wakefulness toward rest, supporting both personal practice and skilful teaching.

Somatic Yin postures provide the primary container for this process. Sound, voice, and breath are woven directly into the postures to steady mental activity and down-regulate arousal. Marma awareness and gentle touch offer precise sensory input which supports regulation and containment. Yoga Nidra completes the arc of practice, offering deep rest, integration, and access to subconscious repair.

Together, these elements form a coherent and teachable appr
oach to evening and restorative practice, with clear pathways for personal use and for guiding others.

Yin Postures
Stillness, Time, and the Body as Regulator
At the heart of both weekends is Yin Yoga itself. Long-held, supported Yin postures form the foundation of Somatic Yin practice and provide the primary means through which the nervous system settles and the body feels safe enough to soften.

Postures are selected for their capacity to support containment, release, and internal listening. Emphasis is placed on simplicity, generous use of props, and allowing gravity and time to do the work. Muscular effort gives way to stillness, and the deeper connective tissues are gradually invited to release without force or strain.

Somatic awareness is brought into each posture through subtle cueing which invites attention toward sensation, weight, temperature, and internal space. Rather than working toward an external shape, students learn to enter postures from within, adjusting support and depth in response to felt experience. This approach honours individual structure, nervous system sensitivity, and the body’s own timing.

Sequencing is taught as a deliberate and skilful process. Each posture prepares the ground for the next, allowing the nervous system to settle progressively across the arc of a class. Standing and seated shapes give way to floor-based postures, which then transition toward fully supported reclined and restorative positions. This gradual unwinding supports the shift from mental activity toward rest and sleep.

You'll learn how to design Yin sequences specifically for evening practice, stress recovery, and sleep support. Attention is given to posture choice, duration, transitions, and the cumulative effect of stillness over time, so Yin postures function as a clear and reliable foundation for regulation and restoration.

Sound, Mantra, Voice & Breath
Nervous System Toning and Mental Steadiness
Sound, voice and breath are used in Somatic Yin Yoga as precise tools for calming the nervous system and settling the mind. These practices are selected for their direct influence on vagal tone, emotional regulation and preparation for sleep.

Vocal toning is taught as a way of gently organising the nervous system through vibration. Sustained tones and simple vowel sounds are used to reduce reactivity, soften fascial holding and support a sense of internal continuity during long-held Yin postures. These practices are especially effective in evening classes, where stimulation gives way to rest.

Mantra is introduced with clarity and purpose. Specific peace mantras are used to steady mental activity and support rhythmic consistency in attention. Mantra is taught as a listening and sensing practice, with emphasis on resonance within the body rather than repetition or performance. This approach supports calm focus and emotional steadiness.

Breath practices are chosen specifically for sleep and deep rest. Gentle pranayama techniques support lengthened exhalation, smooth transitions between breaths and a reduction in internal activation. Breath is guided simply and carefully, allowing the body to settle without effort.

Teachers learn how to integrate vocal toning, mantra and prāṇāyāma directly into Somatic Yin sequences and Yoga Nidra sessions, with attention to timing, tone and dosage so these practices support rest rather than stimulation.

Yoga Nidra
Deep Rest and Subconscious Integration
Yoga Nidra forms the heart of this module and is taught as a practice of conscious rest which supports sleep, nervous system repair and emotional integration. Within Somatic Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra is approached as a state where awareness remains present while the body enters profound stillness.

The practices taught here are designed specifically for evening use and sleep support. Emphasis is placed on body-based awareness, gentle sensory anchoring and the gradual settling of mental activity. Breath and sound are used as stabilising supports, allowing attention to remain grounded as the body moves toward rest.

Yoga Nidra in this module also includes subtle methods for working with the subconscious mind. Carefully structured language and repetition support the release of unhelpful patterns and the cultivation of qualities such as safety, ease and trust. This work draws on principles shared with therapeutic suggestion and neuro-linguistic approaches, while remaining firmly anchored in yogic practice and embodied awareness.

Teachers learn how to guide Yoga Nidra for sleep, stress recovery and deep restoration, adapting practices to suit different nervous system responses and levels of sensitivity.

Marma Touch Therapy
Targeted Support for Rest and Regulation
Marma touch therapy is introduced as a precise and respectful way of supporting regulation, circulation and energetic balance. Marma points are understood as meeting places of body, breath and awareness, with specific relevance to sleep, mental settling and emotional ease.

This module focuses on marma points which influence the nervous system and mind. Students learn how to work with these points during Somatic Yin practice through self-touch, guided awareness and simple tactile cues. These practices offer direct support for calming reactivity and restoring balance.

Touch is always approached with clarity, consent and care. Teachers also learn how to guide students in using their own hands as tools for regulation and support, offering practices which can be continued outside of class and integrated into daily life.

Theoretical Foundations
Nervous System, Trauma and Yogic Insight
Alongside embodied practice, this module includes a clear theoretical foundation which supports understanding without overwhelming experience. The nervous system is explored as the primary organiser of stress, safety and rest, with attention to how trauma and chronic stress shape sleep patterns, emotional reactivity and mental habits.

Students are introduced to key aspects of brain function in trauma, helping teachers recognise activation, shutdown and regulation in themselves and others. You'll learn about nervous system injury and repair. This understanding informs sequencing, language and pacing throughout Somatic Yin and Yoga Nidra.

The module also explores trauma through the lens of the Yoga Sutras. Concepts such as samskara (latent impressions), vritti (patterns of mind), kleshas (rooted patterns of misperception and threat which drive reactivity), and abhyasa (steady practice) are used to understand how experience becomes organised in the nervous system, and how change unfolds slowly through repetition, presence and rest.

An applied introduction to the yogic subtle body systems is included, with focus on the fourteen major nadis (energy pathways) and key marma points relevant to sleep and stress regulation. These teachings are always linked directly to practice, supporting an integrated understanding of body, breath and awareness.

“Honouring the Night emerged from my recent experience of betrayal trauma, which made it immediately clear that the practices I turned to needed to be simple enough to instantly bring me back to my body, senses and steadiness when overhwelmed and flooded with difficult thoughts and emotions. What helped was simplicity, self-compassion and slowness. Through yin, marma touch, simple mantras, some neuro-science techniques and breath regulation, I found a way of inhabiting my body which enabled me to stay with the present moment and meet overwhelming emotion. Within this simplicity, the nervous system gradually settled, and then sleep and a sense of trust began to return.”
~ Mandy Knox

Who This Training Is For

Honouring the Night is for yoga teachers and for practitioners who feel called to this work for personal reasons. Some people may attend because they teach. Others because sleep has become difficult, the nervous system feels worn down, or life has included experiences which still live in the body.

This training welcomes those who are navigating stress, sleeplessness, grief, overwhelm or recovery from trauma, and those who wish to understand how to support rest more skillfully in themselves and others. You may attend simply because you want tools which are gentle, effective and grounded, without needing complex theory or clinical frameworks.

The practices taught are practical and transferable. What you learn here can be used for your own rest and regulation, and easily shared with others. Parents, children, partners, elders and friends often benefit from these simple approaches to settling, breathing and deep rest. You do not need to be a yoga teacher to offer calm presence and supportive guidance.

For yoga teachers, this training offers clear methods for teaching Somatic Yin, evening practice and Yoga Nidra with sensitivity and confidence. For practitioners, it offers lived experience and understanding of what truly supports rest when effort no longer helps.
Honouring the Night is for anyone drawn toward simplicity, steadiness and the quiet work of restoring trust in the body’s capacity to rest.

Training Structure

Honouring the Night
Honouring the Night unfolds over two immersive weekends, each offered as a focused workshop within the Somatic Yin Yoga training framework. Together, they form a complete and progressive exploration of Yin Yoga as an evening practice for sleep, stress reduction and nervous system regulation.

At the centre of both weekends is Yin Yoga itself. Long-held, supported Yin postures provide the primary container for regulation, inquiry and integration. Sequencing is approached with care and intention, allowing each posture to prepare the ground for the next and supporting the gradual settling of the nervous system across the arc of a class.

Practice, theory and teaching skill develop together, with equal emphasis on embodied experience and practical application for teaching.

Workshop One
Yin Foundations for Rest and Regulation
The first weekend establishes the foundations of Somatic Yin Yoga as a practice for evening calm, nervous system settling and sleep preparation. Attention is given to how Yin postures affect the fascia, joints and nervous system, and how sequencing choices influence emotional tone and mental activity.

Participants explore key Yin postures commonly used in evening practice, learning how to adapt shape, duration and support to encourage safety and ease. Sequencing focuses on down-regulation, with careful attention to transitions, pacing and the cumulative effect of posture order.

Sound, vocal toning, peace mantra and breath practices are introduced as supports within Yin postures, enhancing settling and mental steadiness without disrupting stillness. Yoga Nidrā is introduced as the natural completion of a Yin sequence, allowing deep rest and integration.

Theoretical components include an accessible understanding of the nervous system and brain in trauma, alongside yogic perspectives from the Yoga Sutras. Concepts such as vrtti (patterns of mind) and samskara (latent impressions) are explored in direct relationship to Yin practice and repetition over time.

Key areas of focus include:
• Yin postures for evening practice and sleep support
• Sequencing for nervous system regulation and settling
• Use of props and variations to support safety and rest
• Integration of breath, sound and mantra within Yin
• Introduction to Yoga Nidra as completion of practice

Workshop Two
Sequencing, Subtle Body and Deep Integration
The second weekend deepens both practice and teaching skill, with a strong emphasis on sequencing Yin Yoga for sleep, stress recovery and emotional integration. Participants refine their ability to design complete Somatic Yin classes, from arrival through to Yoga Nidra, with clarity and confidence.

Yin postures are explored through the lens of the subtle body, with attention given to the nadis (energy pathways) and marma points which influence sleep quality, mental settling and emotional tone. Marma awareness is introduced within Yin postures through self-touch, guided awareness and optional tactile cueing, supporting regulation and inner listening.

Sequencing work focuses on how posture choice, order and duration affect the nervous system and subconscious states. Participants learn how to structure Yin classes which gradually guide students toward deep rest and readiness for sleep.

Yoga Nidra practices in this weekend are specific to sleep and deep restoration and include gentle subconscious patterning through carefully structured language. These practices arise naturally from the preceding Yin sequence, reinforcing integration rather than standing apart.

Key areas of focus include:
• Advanced Yin sequencing for evening and sleep support
• Working with nadis and marma points within Yin postures
• Self-touch and tactile guidance as teaching tools
• Designing complete Somatic Yin classes with Yoga Nidra
• Integrating theory, practice and teaching presence

honouring the night

Nights can be hard. When the world goes quiet, the body stays alert. The mind loops. Emotions rise without warning. Fatigue deepens and rest feels just out of reach. Many of us know this place intimately.

Honouring the Night is about meeting these hours differently. Through Somatic Yin, breath, sound, marma awareness and Yoga Nidra, the body begins to settle in ways effort never achieves. Stillness held for time changes something. The nervous system softens. The mind slows. What felt overwhelming becomes more workable.

This training is about reclaiming night as a place of rest rather than struggle. A place where the body can finally stand down. Where peace feels possible again. Where rest is no longer something to chase, but something which arrives.
