from darkness to lightAs the sun reaches its furthest point from us and the longest night unfolds, we gather around the fire with one of the most beautiful peace prayers of the Upanisads:
Asato ma sad gamaya Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya Mrrtyor ma amrrtam gamaya Lead me from the unreal to the Real. From darkness to light. From mortality to immortality. This is the prayer of every human life. To see clearly where we have been living from habit, fear or illusion. To turn toward what is true. To move toward greater understanding. To remember what is enduring beneath the changing circumstances of life. The Winter Solstice invites this reflection naturally. We look back. We look forward. We sit quietly with the mystery of life and our place within it The fire becomes a symbol of transformation, illuminating what is ready to be released and what wishes to emerge. Together we honour the darkness, welcome the returning light, and step consciously into a new cycle. |
