We offer two complementary classes on Thursday evenings - a strong, dynamic Hatha Flow followed by a deeply relaxing Yin Yoga class.
This class offers a holistic approach to Yin Yoga. The class explores, in a systematic manner, Yin Yoga through the physical body, energetic body and mind body – (The first three Koshas). Students are given knowledge based learning in each of these areas, and are then guided to explore a different sheath of the body each week, through a sequence of postures that help move the student into this area of the body.
It is important to note, that although emphasis is on one specific area each week, the systems work in a synergy (together).
This class is deeply relaxing and very therapeutic, once its foundation principles are understood and followed. It is especially suitable for people with injuries, anxiety disorders and recovery from illness.
Yin Yoga is slow paced, and therefore results are not seen in these areas quickly, but with regular practice over a number of months, the benefits of Yin Yoga are immense.
YIN YOGA EXPRESSED THROUGH THE KOSHAS
Physical body (Annamaya kosha ) – Emphasis on postures targeting a specific physical area of the body, in order to stretch and maintain the connective tissue around the joints, spine and ligaments.
Energetic body (Pranamaya Kosha – Emphasis is on postures to stimulate the prana (qi) in the energy systems of the Nadis (meridians) of the body for maintaining vitality and wellbeing.
Mind body (Manamaya kosha) – Emphasis on postures to encourage mindfulness in order to notice the habits of the mind, learning to pay attention to ‘what is ‘. Students will be given specific tools to focus, helping them to establish mindfulness while in the posture.
Thursdays 7.00pm - 8.15pm. Ongoing casual class. Level 2 (suitable for beginners and general).
Perfection in asana, is achieved when the effort to perform it becomes effortless, and the infinite being within is reached - Patanjali
About the teacher
Di teaches Hatha Yoga, in a style that bears her own distinctive flavour of breath, rhythm and flow. She balances this with the slower practice of Yin Yoga, in a style that uses meditation, enquiry, and contemplation. She has found the two different styles of yoga to be complementary, in allowing both sides (the yin and yang) of our nature to be inhabited.
Di’s love of yoga has been a transformative vehicle for change, and over time its principles and practices have been integrated into her daily life. She is committed to being a lifelong student in developing a breadth and depth to her own personal yoga practice, and is currently undertaking Yin Yoga study with Sarah Powers, through the Institute of Insight Yoga.
