Join Robert in studio at Kookaburra Creek
Fridays Monthly 6.00pm - 8.00pm
Join Robert and special guests in studio for an evening of grounding and devotional kirtan, satsang, yogic philosophy & an Aarati ceremony. Kirtana (Sanskrit: कीर्तन; IAST: Kīrtana), also known as Kirtan or Keertan, is a Sanskrit word that means "narrating, reciting, telling, describing" of an idea or story in Yogic and Indian culture. Kirtan has long been regarded as a community event to bring about unity and celebrate a shared spiritual practice. With roots in the Vedic anukirtana tradition, a kirtan is a call-and-response style song or chant, set to music, where we recite songs of devotion, describe a legend or story or discuss spiritual ideas. Musical accompaniment with traditional instruments such as the harmonium, tanpura, the veena, sitar, rav drum, the tabla (drums), wood flute, tibetian bells (cymbals) is woven into the practice. The evening begins with readings from yogic texts with Robert, co-founder of Kookaburra Yoga. With decades of immersive study in yogic philosophy, Robert's philosophical readings can bring light and contemplation to many of our daily struggles. Satsang (question and answer) follows, as time allows, and then we flow into sharing Kirtan with Robert and musical guests. The evening concludes with an Aarati ceremony, a beautifully calming ceremony of light bringing small oil lamps of ghee, into a mindful and devotional song practice. Places are limited - bookings essential. You are welcome bring your own instrument, use an instrument in studio, or come and simply enjoy the kirtan and satsang. All musical and singing abilities are welcome. |
