Embodying Movement through Sound
discover the joy of connecting to nature, of moving in harmony with the sounds of nature and sacred, healing instruments.
Sunday 10am-4pm. This workshop is hosted by Mandy and Robert of Kookaburra Yoga, and led by inspirational Indigenous Dance & Movement Choreographer and Director Simon Stewart. We have known Simon for many years, and admired his work professionally and the humility and reverence he holds for the spiritual and natural world. We do hope you can join us in welcoming Simon to Kookaburra as a facilitator of this unique and joyful Spring workshop!
The Embodying Movement through Sound Workshop explores 2 components of human creativity. During the first part we explore the interconnectedness of sound as a vessel of communication, connecting space, time, rhythm, and the flow of energy through sound. This component of the workshop process takes 1.5 hours as we explore sound composition within an ensemble using instruments we commonly use in yogic sound healing sessions as well as instruments and objects which might be used by Aboriginal people to produce music and sound. The second component of the workshop is a 2 hour movement generation process of how we respond to sound through an exploration of embodying the human element of movement individually and in groups to create movement-based work from improvisational tasks. The emphasis of this workshop is to connect with a playful and innocent creativity, to listen deeply, establish an inner rhythm, and move in harmony. Our lives are often so structured, and oriented around work and responsibilities, that we become rigid not only in our bodies, but in our minds and hearts too. Simon guides us to relax in to our whole Self, to let go a little, and reestablish an inner rhythm which we express through joyful, soulful movement. You don't need any experience of yoga, dance, meditation, music or sound. This is a small group workshop with limited numbers. |
